What's New In Milford Public Schools This Year?
Stacy Middle School has a new principal, the district has a new nursing director and the high school has a stricter phone policy.
MILFORD, MA — It's the most wonderful time of the year — for parents at least, kids may want a little extra time for summer. As the school year gears up, many parents are looking forward to the daily routine coming back to the kids lives, but plenty of changes have been made while they were away. Here are some of the big ones to keep in mind:
Stacy Middle School Has A New Principal
The new principal of Stacy Middle School is Tahon Ross, an assistant principal in Washington D.C. The district started their search in May after announcing that current principal, Nancy Angelini, was stepping out to take over as the Director of Grants, Technology and Media.

Aside from being an assistant principal for the Washington, D.C. Public Schools, Ross has also worked as a dean, English teacher, and English department head in New York City, Atlanta, and DC.

Milford Public Schools will have a new face taking the reins of the Nursing Department in the district. Lee Waingortin will be the district's new Director of Nursing as well as the school nurse for Shining Star Preschool.
Waingortin will be replacing Judy Dagnese as Director of Nursing in the district and as the Shining Star nurse.
Phones Down in Milford High With Stricter Policy
School administrators at Milford High School are buckling down on cellphone and electronic usage in class. A tougher policy was drafted after teachers complained about students being distracted in class by electronics.
Under the new policy, the responsibility of carrying out consequences will be shifted to administrators instead of classroom teachers. The goal is to free up classroom teachers to focus on curriculum instead of cellphone punishment.
A Charter School Could Come To Town In 2020
A proposal to bring a charter school to Milford is in front of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and an assistant principal at a Milford middle school is the one pushing it forward. Leading Edge Charter School is one of four charter schools proposed for the state and, if approved, would be the first charter school in Milford and the third in the MetroWest.
The proposed school would house grades kindergarten through eighth grade and serve up to 270 students. The target opening year is listed as 2020. According to the application, Nadine Clifford, an assistant principal at Stacy Middle School, is listed as the developer and founder.
Between back to school shopping and keeping up with the changes in the district, it can be hard to remember those important dates on the school calendar. Don't worry, Patch has you covered with the key dates for the school year and a look at the Milford Public School calendar.
