Man Shot by State Trooper on Route 28 Identified

A trooper from the Milton barracks responded to a report of an erratic driver.

The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office has identified the man shot and killed Friday morning by a trooper from the Milton State Police Barracks as Wilfredo Justiniano, Jr., 41 of Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford.

"Police made contact with Mr. Justiniano pursuant to a citizen call reporting a vehicle operating erratically in the area of Rte. 28 just north of the Rte. 93 interchange, in the stretch of Rte. 28 that is within the City of Quincy," spokesman David Traub said in a statement released Friday afternoon.

"Preliminary information, including initial civilian witness statements, indicates that police contact with Mr. Justiniano resulted in a struggle that involved a Massachusetts State Police Officer discharging his weapon. Mr. Justiniano was quickly transported to nearby Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton where he was pronounced dead shortly before 9 a.m."
