Drugs and the Developing Teen Brain: What Parents and Teens Need to Know

Susan Swick, MD, MPH: Chief of Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Nicole Danforth, MD, Director of Outpatient Programs, both of Newton-Wellesley Hospital

Susan and Nicole will be speaking about what is known about the developing brain in adolescents and the particular risks of substance use during these years.  THey will also be talking about how to separate fact from fiction around marijuana, opiates, and other drugs.  Finally, they'll talk about how challenging this topic can be to speak honestly (and accurately) about, both for teens and for their parents.  They will also share some strategies to keep the lines of communication open on this topic that is so critical to the safety, health, and well
