Fake Checks, Break Ins, Calls To Crystal Lake: Newton Police Logs

NEWTON, MA — Here's a sample of the types of calls the Newton Police Department respond to each day. The following snippets are chosen by the Newton Police and sent to the Patch. Arrests do not imply conviction.
Tuesday, Aug. 21
Warrant: Police arrested Emily Ann Szeto, 36, of Newton on a warrant for larceny of a person. Szeto was previously arrested in Newton in March.
Monday, Aug. 27
Break ins: At least three people called about car break ins, including residents of Richardson Street, Franklin Street and Church Road.

Bad Check: Police arrested Clark F. Maddock, 31, of Boston. Madock was charged with uttering a false check and larceny over $1,200. Earlier that day employees of "Eastern Bank" on Comm Ave in Auburndale alerted police that two men came in and cashed two fraudulent checks of the same amount. The employee also told police that one of the men also cashed a fake check in their Natick branch. Employees of the Newton Centre branch called police to let them know Maddock was there, where police arrested him.
Saturday, Sept. 1
Break in: Someone called at 8:53 a.m. to report a break in near the rear of Bloomingdales in the upper area of the mall at Chestnut Hill.

Ouch: Someone reported a dog bite happened at Wellington Playground around noon.
Sunday, Sept. 2
What was that? At 10:39 a.m. someone reported hearing what they thought were shots fired near Walsh Terrace.
Sticky fingers: Someone at BAZA GOURMET FOODS AND SPIRITS on Tower road reported a shoplifter.
Nightmare: Someone reported a larceny on Elm Street.
Monday, Sept. 3
Hit and run: Police were called to a hit and run in front of the Walgreens on Langley Road.
Break ins: Someone called police at 7:59 p.m. for a report of a car break in on Colonial Avenue. A minute later dispatch received another call about a break in happening right then on Vaughn Avenue.
Tuesday, Sept. 4
Break ins: Someone reported a break in happening on Comm Ave around 4:30 a.m. three hours later someone reported a break in on Hampshire Street and then shortly after at 7:36 a.m. at the Iraci Landscaping on Farwell Street.
Hit and runs: Police responded to two reports of crashes that were deemed hit and runs, one on Austin Street and then another about seven hours later on Rt. 9.
Wednesday, Sept. 5
Break ins: Police were called to Bonnybrook Road and Swallow Drive for reports of break ins.
Hit and run: Someone called police to report a hit and run on Washington Street.
Thursday, Sept. 6
Break ins: Police responded to two reported breakins, one on Kilburn Road and another on Union Street.
Crystal Lake: Police responded to a call at the Crystal Lake Bath House at 5:12 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 7
Crystal Lake: Police were called to Levingston Cove at Crystal lake at 2:51 a.m.
Larcenies: Police got calls about larcenies at The Falls at Cordingly Dam on Washington Street, Panera Bread on Centre Street, and at Medical Resources Homehealth on Nevada Street.
Saturday, Sept. 8
Happening now: Someone called to report a break in was happening as they spoke at 1:57 p.m. on Crafts Street.
Vandal: Police got a call about a vandalism incident on Danehill Road.
Sunday, Sept. 9
Car break in: Someone reported their car was broken into while it was parked near Trader Joes on Washington Street.
Shoplifter: An employee at BAZA GOURMET FOODS AND SPIRITS on Tower Road reported a shoplifter.
