Newton After School Program is Hiring Lead Teachers for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade Groups!
Who we are: A non-profit, EEC-licensed after school program serving children ages 5-12. In addition to facilitating daily homework, outdoor recreation, and snack time, we offer a variety of programming including arts and crafts, sports, computer activities, science experiments, field trips, and more! While we have many areas of core programming and traditional events, there is much room for creative freedom in planning, and we love to let each staff member’s areas of particular interest shine. You will be joining a strong staff team with a majority of teachers returning for their 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th years with the program. You can read more about us here: www.underwoodafterschool.org.

Lead Team Teacher for Kindergarten/1st Grade Group
Lead Team Teacher for 2nd Grade Group (2 positions)
Lead Teacher Schedule (23 hours/week):
Monday, Thursday, & Friday: 2:30 – 6:15 PM; Tuesday 10:30 AM – 6:15 PM; Wednesday 2:30-6:30 PM
School year only (August 24th through end of school year in June); includes some days of February and April vacation weeks.
Competitive hourly compensation starting at $17.00/hour;
optional health and dental insurance enrollment.

Lead Teachers have the primary responsibility for daily planning, setup, and instruction for a designated group of up to 13 kids per day, five days a week, in their specified age group. This includes serving snack, supervising and participating in outside or gym recreation, monitoring homework time, and planning unique, varied activities for each day. S/he will be expected to coordinate with other teaching staff members for daily shared responsibilities as well as occasional multi-group collaboration (matching up groups for larger sports games, working on a larger-scale project with two teachers, etc.). S/he will also work with all children in the program during combined-group activity times, and with other staff to plan and provide whole-program events. S/he must attend all-staff meetings each Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening (included in the schedule above).
Our ideal candidate is energetic and athletic (ready to run around with kids!), patient, holds interests and skills in a variety of areas, is comfortable leading a variety of programming, is knowledgeable about child development, and can manage both small and large groups well. Ability to work with a wide range of child ages and personalities is a must! One year of prior experience with children in a school, after school, camp or other educational setting is required; bachelor’s degree preferred, although college juniors or seniors with relevant work experience will be considered. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be able to pass both CORI and SORI criminal background checks, as well as a fingerprint check against a national criminal database.

This program is located in a school building with potential (optional) part-time employment at the school available for the earlier part of the day on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (if selected for an interview, more details will be shared about this opportunity).
