GOOD FRIDAY MUSIC BY NEWTON BAROQUE
March 25, 7:30 pm Second Church, 60 Highland St., West Newton

Works by Couperin, Charpentier, de Lalande and Marais for Good Friday from early 18th century Paris are performed in a darkened sanctuary as they would have been in an 18th Century French observance. The ritual centers around extinguishing of 15 candles one by one, interspersed with readings and music ending with one final piece of music in complete darkness capturing the spirit and drama of the ancient Tenebrae rite.
Jessica Cooper and Sierra Marcy, sopranos; Shiba Nemat-Nasser, alto with Laura Jeppesen, viola da gamba, Jason Priset, theorbo, Andrus Madsen, harpsichord and director.
