Release party for "Nation of Enemies: A Thriller" to be hosted by Newtonville Books

Holly Raynes is all about her neighborhood. Not only does her new thriller, Nation of Enemies, take place in Boston, but Newton figures prominently as well. The novel was written primarily at West Newton’s Cafe L’Aroma as she enjoyed their lattes, scones and curries. Then last summer, in her search for an agent, she met and signed with The Laura Gross Agency which is coincidentally - and conveniently - located in Newton Highlands. Raynes signed with HarperCollins/Witness Impulse and Nation of Enemies was released first as a print edition a few weeks ago in August, with the print edition to follow on 10/6/15. Newtonville Books will host Raynes’s release party on Thursday 10/8 at 7pm in Newton Centre.

“Nation of Enemies” is set in the near future world of 2032, where civil war has created a war-torn landscape. The narrative is told through alternating points of view, characters whose lives are forever marred by violence and who try to bring down a terrorist group headed by a criminal mastermind. The book moves at breakneck speed, all the while going deep into the characters’ lives and making you think about the deeper issues of national safety and individual freedom—and what can happen when the best-laid intentions and ideas are sabotaged by fanatics and saboteurs.

Raynes continues to write, working on her second novel, as she continues her day job in advertising and her most important job, as a parent.
