Free lecture: Thursday, April 23; 7 p.m.

WHO: The New England Aquarium’s Explorer-in-Residence Brian Skerry, a world-renowned underwater photographer for National Geographic, will share stories from beneath the waves reporting on his most recent assignments for one of the world’s most popular magazines.

WHAT: Brian Skerry of Uxbridge, Mass., has circled the globe, chronicling the lives of harp seals, Southern right whales, sharks, blue fin tuna, and scores of other marine life species in their natural habitats. He has spent more than 10,000 hours underwater and has an admirable ability to distill significant environmental messages in a single image.

Working for over 15 years at National Geographic, Skerry has produced more than 20 lead articles filled with mesmerizing views of vast seascapes and heart-breaking moments of whales, sharks and dolphins snarled in nets that threaten their lives. Skerry’s camera illuminates long-held mysteries of the deep.
