Newton City Council Rejects Mayor's ZBA Appointments: Report
The council voted to reject the six appointments Monday night and allow attorney Barbara Huggins to remain on the board.

Newton, MA â The Newton City Council voted Monday night to reject the mayor's six appointments to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The 16-7 decision also maintains attorney Barbara Huggins' seat on the board, the Newton TAB reported.
According to the TAB, Newton Mayor Setti Warren had elected not to reappoint Huggins because her affiliation with parties opposed to Chapter 40B affordable housing projects could constitute potential bias when faced with similar issues on the ZBA.

However, Monday night's decision does not secure Huggins' membership in the ZBA; in fact, Warren can resubmit the appointments for approval or the ZBA can vote, with the consent of the mayor, to remove her, the TAB reported.
