Newton to Launch Pay-by-Phone Parking App
The app, called "Passport," will go live in Newton Centre on June 15 and be available citywide July 1.

Newton, MA â A new app allowing people to pay for parking in Newton through their phone will be released in a limited capacity on June 15.
Passport, a mobile pay app designed to streamline the payment process for residents and visitors, will go live in Newton Centre on Wednesday. It will be available at all parking spaces in the city by July 1.
People will be able to make initial payments, extend their parking sessions and pay to park multiple cars from their phones without having to return to the meter.

Several cities, including Boston, have implemented mobile parking apps. Park Boston, initially released in the Back Bay area of the city, is also powered by Passport.
According to the City of Newton website, meters will not switch from red to green after payment, but parking enforcement officers will be equipped with a device to view the payment.
