Newton Resident Sarita Ledani Helps Build Beds for A Bed for Every Child
Build-A-Bed Challenge between Cooperative Credit Unions Association and East Boston Savings Bank creates awareness for A Bed for Every Child

Newton resident Sarita Ledani of RTN Credit Union recently helped build beds for A Bed for Every Child in a Build-A-Bed Challenge between Cooperative Credit Unions Association and East Boston Savings Bank. The goal was to determine which team can build the most beds for children in a two-hour time frame. Forty volunteers helped build 40 beds.
Build-A-Bed Challenge is an effort to raise awareness for A Bed for Every Child program. Today, nearly one in seven children in Massachusetts is growing up in poverty. Studies have shown that the lack of a good night sleep plays a negative role in a child’s development and education. A bed is one of the tools that can help to give a child a good night’s sleep.
Two rival teams participated in the friendly competition:East Boston Savings Bank vs. The Cooperative Credit Union Association represented by execs from eight member credit unions: Hanscom Federal Credit Union, Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union, MassMutual Federal Credit Union, Metro Credit Union, Naveo Credit Union, RTN Federal Credit Union, St. Jean’s Credit Union and Workers Credit Union.

“The pilot project will serve as a blueprint for future bed-buidling projects. It offers a great opportunity for people to roll up their sleeves and make a difference while learning about A Bed for Every Child and the important work we do throughout Massachusetts. I just love that 40 volunteers created 40 beds so 40 children can get more than 40 winks in their new beds,” says Executive Director Robyn Frost. Learn more at abedforeverychild.org.
