Newton-Wellesley Hospital Gets an A in Patient Safety...Again

Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) is proud to announce that The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit health care ratings organization, has again awarded NWH an elite designation of “A” for its ongoing achievements in patient safety. NWH is one of only 59 hospitals in the United States (and one of only 8 in Massachusetts) to be awarded an “A” consistently since 2013. This rating puts NWH in the top 2% of the 2600 hospitals rated nationwide.

“This designation recognizes the hard work and dedication of our clinical leadership and frontline staff to ensuring our patients receive the highest quality, patient-centered, safe care,” said Dr. Michael R. Jaff, President, Newton-Wellesley Hospital. “We are extremely proud to receive this national recognition for five consecutive years.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers make more informed decisions about healthcare. It is calculated by top patient-safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

In addition to the Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Score, NWH has recently received other quality and patient safety awards including: Truven Health Analytics Top 100 Hospital, Triple Gold Performance Achievement from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program recognition for exemplary surgical outcomes; American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer three-year accreditation with commendation; Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Honor Roll for clinical quality; Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA Blue Distinction Designation for improving health care quality; Healthgrades Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award and the DPH Stroke Collaborative Reaching for Excellence (SCORE) award for “Closest to Defect-Free Care.”
