Newton's Preliminary Election on Thursday

The city is holding a preliminary election to reduce the number of candidates for Alderman-at-Large, Ward 2, in the municipal election.

To reduce the number of candidates who are running for Alderman-at-Large, Ward 2, Newton is holding a preliminary election on Thursday, Sept. 17.

Marcia T. Johnson and Susan S. Albright are looking to hold their current positions as Alderman-at-Large, Ward, 2, taking on Lynne Lise Leblanc, former Marines captain Jacob Daniel Auchincloss and Jessica C. Barton.

A ballot position lottery was conducted on Monday, Aug. 17 to determine the order of candidates appearing in the Municipal Preliminary Ballot.

General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.

The question of forming a Charter Commission and electing its members will be on the Nov. 3 ballot. A Charter Commission, if approved by the voters, will review Newton’s City Charter and suggest changes that will be presented to Newton voters for approval at the Municipal Election in 2017, said the announcement. Nomination papers for those seeking to serve on the Charter Commission, should it be approved, are now available in the City Clerk’s Office and must be returned by Sept. 22.
