WATCH: Oh No! There Could Be No Pumpkin Pie for Thanksgiving

You’ll have your pick of pumpkins to carve, but experts are saying by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, pumpkin could be scarce. And that means the canned pumpkin needed for those pies could be missing on the shelves.

According to crop experts in Illinois, which produces the most pumpkins, crops will be slimmer this year, reported the Chicago Tribune.

Libby, a canned pumpkin manufacturer, told the Tribune that yields could be down by a third this year, stating “once we ship the remainder of the 2015 harvest, we’ll have no more Libby’s pumpkin to sell until harvest 2016.”

The record rainfall is being blamed for the lack of crops.

Farmers are blaming record rainfall in June for washing out the crop.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture reported that according to the University of Illinois, 90 percent of the pumpkins grown in the United States are raised within a 90-mile radius of Peoria, Illinois. Most pumpkins are processed into canned pumpkin and canned pie mix.

The price of pumpkins, too, is expected to be higher this season than previous years.
