Rebuilding the Republican Party in Massachusetts

My ideas to rebuild and revitalize the Republican Party in Massachusetts, and in particular Newton, Brookline and Wellesley

My name is Joshua Gary Norman and I am running to serve as your next Republican State Committee Man in the First Middlesex & Norfolk District (Brookline, Newton & Wellesley (Precincts A, C, D, E & H). All registered Republicans and unenrolled/independent voters may vote in this election, which takes place on Tuesday March 1, 2016, concurrently with the presidential primary election. I would appreciate your vote for Republican State Committee Man and I’m asking for your vote to serve the First Middlesex & Norfolk District by working to revitalize the Republican Party in Massachusetts.

Here is what sets me apart from the other three gentlemen running for Republican State Committee Man in the First Middlesex & Norfolk District.

· I am a pro-life, pro-family conservative who believes in national sovereignty , lower taxes and limiting the size, scope and cost of government

· I have the best record of helping conservative candidates win contested elections and participating in ballot question signature drives for conservative causes

· I signed the Massachusetts Republican Assembly’s Real Republican Reformer pledge because I am the only consistent advocate for reforming the Republican party over the last three years

New Leadership-I am the only candidate on record who will vote against retaining our current Party Chair & her leadership team. We need a Chairman who won’t flippantly dismiss our party’s platform and who will ensure greater voting integrity at our quadrennial statewide convention so our party doesn’t incur $410,000 in legal fees and damages because our party leaders don’t follow their own rules

Improving our party’s brand image-Our party’s brand message is confusing, diluted, & voters don’t understand what we stand for. We need a serious refocus & comprehensive information campaign and we need to start on it NOW!

Improving our GOTV voting operations/systems-Our Party spent over $300,000 on our new GOTV voting systems and yet too often the voter contact information is outdated, or the system contacts the same people multiple times within the same day. We need GOTV systems that work reliably in order to improve our vote share going forward.

Improving our party’s fiscal management-At the November 2015 State Committee meeting, the Treasurer’s budget report highlighted the very low percentage of our party’s budget going to support candidates. I will work to reduce our party’s budgetary overhead to free up funds to help candidates by introducing zero-based budgeting.

Improved vetting of our party’s candidates-While Republicans of good will may disagree with one another occasionally, we need to insure that our party candidates demonstrate significant support and respect for our party’s principles. I recently created Voter Guides measuring where the candidates stand on the issues so that even if we have a difference of opinion, we’re operating with the same base of facts.

Allowing all Republican candidates a chance to speak in the district-I believe that all Republicans on the ballot should be allowed an opportunity to speak to the RTCs/RCCs in the district, as long as they are willing to answer any reasonable questions asked by the members.

Ensure the Party Helps All Candidates, not just a Favored Few-For too long, the Massachusetts Republican Party devoted the majority of its resources on the governor’s race while failing to even recruit candidates to run for local legislative district seats. I will work to make sure that principled Republicans at all levels are recruited to run and supported with the necessary time, talent and treasure. I will use my position as State Committee Man to raise funds for local candidates and I will even pull papers to run for a district seat (State Senate, State Rep or Governor’s Council) in 2018 if I am unable to recruit candidates to run for these seats.

Reduce Republican Isolation-What helps the Democrats maintain their electoral majorities in Massachusetts and in particular Newton, Brookline and Wellesley is that they are well connected and organized. I will work to strengthen our district’s ward and town committees to ensure that Republicans in the district feel less isolated, and know there is a place for them with like-minded individuals. At the Wellesley Republican Town Committee’s September meeting, I proposed that the district’s local Republican Committees work together on each community’s municipal elections as each community schedules its municipal elections at different days and times of the year.

Reforming the process of chartering organizations and restoring the Massachusetts Federation of Republican Women’s charter. My late grandmother was a member of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America and I will happily restore the MFRW’s charter, in my grandmother’s memory.

Supporting and demanding transparency and fairness in the election of delegates to the national and state conventions, as well as the election of party officers, state committee members and RTC leadership. I was the only candidate in our district to attend the September 2015 State Committee meeting when the committee voted on whether to retain the delegate caucus system or not. I viewed the effort to take away the delegate caucuses as a power grab in response to the 2012 Liberty Delegates defeating the Romney Slate at the local caucuses. As a former Fisher delegate who had his delegate credentials challenged by Baker delegates (one of whom is my opponent Tom Mountain) to the 2014 MassGOP State Convention, it was a very personal issue to me. Fortunately, the Credentials Committee set aside the challenge by a 14-0 vote after a 5 minute hearing.

Serving as an independent voice on the State Committee and not allowing my principles to be compromised by a state or federal job. I find that there is enough bureaucracy in the private sector, I don’t need to double down on experiencing it by seeking a government job.

Actively opposing the Democrat Party’s agenda. I can oppose the destructive agenda of Newton Mayor Setti Warren and the left-wing Democrats. My opponents cannot, lest they lose an appointment as constable or opportunities to give keynote speeches for local flag, motherhood and apple pie events that the mayor attends. I’ve never donated to a Democrat (unlike Charles Grillo), I’ve never endorsed Democrat Establishment incumbents (unlike Tom Mountain) and I’ve never liked a Democrat’s social media pages (unlike Peter Lorenz and Charles Grillo).

On Tuesday, March 1, I’m asking for your vote to serve as First Middlesex & Norfolk District Republican State Committee Man in order to revitalize the Republican Party in Massachusetts. The nationwide resurgence in principled conservatism boosted the electoral prospects of Republicans at all levels nationwide and I say it’s time that Massachusetts Republicans restore principled conservatism to our party so we can win elections, break the Democrat Party’s dominance in state and local government and roll back the Democrat Party’s destructive policies.
