Student from Newton Found Dead at UMass

NEWTON, MA - A man found dead in a dorm room on the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus has been identified as a Newton resident.

Jonathan Shaw, a senior majoring in mathematics, passed away in his dorm room, according to a statement released to students and faculty.

"We extend our sincere condolences to Jonathan's family and friends," David C. Vaillancourt, senior associate dean of students, wrote in the statement.

A UMass spokesman told the Daily Hampshire Gazette that no foul play was suspected. Police found Shaw in his room in Lewis Hall at 11:49 a.m. Wednesday morning, the site reported. 

No further information about Shaw's death is available at this time.
