4 Injured In Norwood Ambulance Crash

Police said paramedics were taking a Canton woman to Norwood Hospital, when a man crashed his car into the ambulance, causing four injuries.

NORWOOD, MA — Four people, including two paramedics and a patient, were injured when a man crashed his car into an ambulance after failing to stop at a busy Route 1 intersection. Police Sgt. Timothy McDonagh said he responded to the crash at the intersection of Route 1 and Everett Street at 9:05 a.m., Friday after seeing a lot of smoke in the distance.

McDonagh said the paramedics were taking a Canton woman to Norwood Hospital when the crash happened. The driver of both vehicles, the other paramedic, and the woman were taken to Norwood Hospital, following the crash.

McDonagh said the traffic back up was horrible and lasted about 45 minutes.

"We shut the intersection down northbound and soundbound," he said. "We didn't want anyone turning onto the street."

Police said the driver who caused the crash was a man in his 40s. He was given a failure to yield citation.
