Norwood Drunk Driver Hit Elderly Man: Police

NORWOOD, MA — A Norwood man was arrested after he struck and seriously injured an elderly man Friday night while driving drunk, police said. According to police, Peter Whalen, 35, was driving a pickup truck on Washington Street when he hit and seriously injured a 67-year-old West Roxbury man who was walking with his wife.

The victim man was transported to Norwood Hopsital but had to be transferred to a Boston hospital for several surgeries due to the severity of his injuries, police said. His wife was not injured during the crash.

Whalen was charged with his second operating under the influence offense and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Whalen was released on bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday morning.
