Severe Weather Possible Today for Area, Watch in Effect

Update, 2:40 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. this evening.

Summertime storms are in the forecast this afternoon, and some storms could reach severe criteria.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Taunton, are forecasting the development of severe weather by late afternoon or early evening today.

Although any storm development probably would be hit or miss across the region, large hail and damaging winds are the main concerns with any storm.

"The showers and thunderstorms are expected to be scattered in nature ... however, some of the storms are expeced to become strong to severe," according to a statement.
