Closed Quincy Businesses Lose Liquor Licenses

QUINCY, MA — Two Quincy restaurants that are no longer in business had their licenses taken away by the city's licencing board.

Tuesday evening, the board voted to cancel the liquor licenses of Basta Pasta restaurant and the Holy Ground, according to the Patriot Ledger. The move was done to prevent the practice of an owner holding on to a "pocket license" in order to sell them at a higher price.

The former owners of Basta Pasta were not at the meeting, which lead to a quick vote. Gerard Hanley, who owned the Holy Ground, said he thought he had a buyer for his business but the prospective sale hasn't panned out.

The Holy Ground was on Hancock Street until the city took the property away though eminent domain.
