QUINCY, MA — Police identified and arrested a homeless man they said was behind two stealing two cars and an additional carjacking attempt on March 14. Nathaniel Preston, 28, was arraigned in Quincy District Court Friday and charged with armed carjacking, larceny of a motor vehicle, and attempting to commit a crime.

Around 11:15 p.m., on March 14, Preston tried to carjack a man while he was waiting in the drive thru at Wendy's on Newport Avenue, according to police. Police said Preston tried to open the car door, threatened the man, and tried to jump in front of his car while he drove away.

Ten minutes later, police were called to Marshall's on Newport Avenue after a woman said a man, police later identified as Preston, jumped in front of her car and pointed a gun at her. She got out, and the suspect stole her 2011 Toyota Corolla, police said.

When speaking to the woman, police were called to Elmwood Park after a delivery driver from Boston reported his Honda Accord stolen. Police said the man left his keys in the ignition while delivering food, which gave Preston the opportunity to steal it. No one was hurt in any of the three incidents.

Both stolen vehicles were recovered, and detectives investigated all three incidents and identified Preston as the suspect in all three.
