• Massachusetts trooper suspended, accused of punching fellow trooper (wcvb.com) — A Massachusetts State Police trooper from Quincy has been suspended with pay after being charged with assault and battery following a late-June fight at ReelHouse Marina Bay in Quincy. Quincy Police reviewed video showing one trooper repeatedly punching another, and a bartender told investigators the victim appeared briefly unconscious before both men declined medical treatment at the scene.

• Massachusetts High Court Rules Against Saints Statues (eurasiareview.com) — Quincy's plan to place two large Catholic saint statues on its new public safety building has been halted after Massachusetts' highest court upheld an injunction, siding with local residents who sued. The ruling says the display likely violates the state constitution's ban on government favoring a particular religion, and sends the case back to a lower court while city officials weigh further appeals.
