Mosquito Larvicide To Be Applied Via Helicopter In Reading
The application to control mosquito populations will begin Tuesday morning, according to the town.
READING, MA — The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project will be conducting a helicopter application of larvicide to control mosquito populations, according to a statement from the town.
The applications are being done via helicopter flying over wetlands beginning Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. The application may continue into Wednesday.

- Brentwood Drive/Fairchild Drive
- Lindsey Lane
- Main Street/Nelson Avenue
- Off of Haverhill St. (near Timberneck Drive, Symonds Way, Charles Street)
Residents do not need to take any special precautions for this application, according to the town.
Bti, the chemical compound being used, "is a natural occurring bacterium found in soil, and is classified by the EPA as relatively non-toxic. Bti is target specific and only affects mosquito larvae and a few closely related aquatic insects in the fly family. Bti breaks down quickly in the environment. The product to be used is VectoBac GS (EPA Registration #73049-10)," according to the town.
