Reading Municipal Light To Host Open House
Face painting, balloon art and an electric vehicle showcase are among attractions planned at the open house event.
READING, MA — Reading community members will get a chance to enjoy a range of attractions from a touch-a-truck event to pumpkin decorating at a planned Reading Municipal Light Department Open House next month.
The event is set for Oct. 6 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the light department’s garage at 218 Ash St. Planned programming is part of the larger National Public Power Week from Oct. 3 through Oct. 9.
This year’s event will mark a return for the program after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
Reading’s open house will include face painting, balloon art, kids games and prizes, a lineman dress-up activity and an electric vehicle showcase, among other things, according to an event announcement.

Light department staff will be on hand to discuss various topics related to electricity, electrical safety, energy conservation and various rebate and efficiency programs.
“As a municipally-owned public power utility, we’re proud to provide safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to the communities we serve,” Light Department Interim General Manager Greg Phipps said in a statement this week.

“We are grateful for this opportunity to directly engage with the public, provide family-friendly entertainment, and educate our customers about our ongoing decarbonization efforts,” he continued.
