Salem, MA, January 8, 2015, 2014 – Virtuoso saxophonist Otis Murphy presents a recital in Salem State University’s Recital Hall on Monday, January 26 at 7:30 pm. Murphy’s performances are marked by stunning virtuosity, gorgeous tone and world-class musicianship. He will be joined on this concert by Salem State music faculty Amy McGlothlin.

Murphy is in great demand throughout the world as a soloist and clinician. In addition to his frequent solo appearances throughout the United States, he has also performed and given saxophone classes in France, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Belgium, and Italy.

His teachers include Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Eugene Rousseau and Kenneth Fischer. He received the Prix de Perfectionnement from the Conservatoire National Régional de Musique, Cergy-Pontoise, France while a Fulbright Fellow and holds a performers certificate from Indiana Univeristy’s Jacobs School of Music, the highest honor given to a performer at that institution. He has garnered a number of awards including prizes in Belgium’s Adolphe Sax International Saxophone Competition, the Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition in France and the Heida Hermanns International Woodwind Competition in the United States.

Dr. Murphy, who is professor of saxophone at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, will also present a master class at 11 am on January 26 in the Recital Hall. This class is open to observers.

Tickets to the evening concert are: Free for middle school and high school students/$15 general and $10 seniors. Salem State students are admitted free with SSU ID.
