Real Paranormal Activity in Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury has haunts like many other communities.

As the fog rolls in and the air has an odd chill to it, some may feel that tingle down the spine.

Something is off and suddenly the lights dim and they might hear faint footsteps, but don't see anyone around.

It is not the setting of another scary movie, it's feelings some people have in town right in time for Halloween. When these things happen, some people call the neighborhood Ghostbusters or as the group likes to be called the Central Massachusetts Paranormal Society (CMPS).

"I receive many calls to private homes in the Shrewsbury area," said Rev. Nancy McMillian, founder and lead investigator for CMPS.

Once a call is received, the investigators are on the case. They research online, at the local Historic Society, town hall and then head out to the location.

Usually in teams of two or more, they interview the people who live in the home, set up digital recorders in "hot spots", take base-line temperatures with electro-magnetic field readings.

When all this is done, they "go dark," McMillan said, "just like in Paranormal State on A&E, they go to 'dead time.'"

Basically, they shut the lights off and all electrical items as possible, and then walk through the house with recording devices, visual and audio.

If any physical evidence is collected, they show the family and discuss what the next move is.

"Some people want us to bless the house and clear it of spirits" McMillan said. "Sometimes people just want to know that there is the presence of the spirit(s) and leave it at that."

Since, McMillan is psychic, she can also connect with spirit in the home and give more information about who or what the presence is.

Due to the fact that private homes/families want to keep all their information confidential, there is no telling where in Shrewsbury these homes are located

McMillan has one ghost story of her own, that will surely turn you white.

After her grandmother passed, when she was 20 years old, she drove up to her family's home and saw her grandmother in the window of the house waving at her. Then suddenly, she was gone. Knowing that she didn't get a chance to say goodbye, Nancy thought her grandmother just wanted to say goodbye to her.
