Shrewsbury Seeks More Town Meeting Members To Fill Vacancies Across All Precincts
There are 25 vacancies for the elected office ahead of the town's annual election in May.
SHREWSBURY, MA — The Town of Shrewsbury is calling for more candidates to get involved ahead of Town Meeting.
Shrewsbury is short of the number of candidates needed to fill all vacancies for Town Meeting Members across all 10 precincts. Interested candidates must collect 10 signatures from registered voters in their precinct and submit those papers to the Town Clerk by Tuesday, Mar. 17, at 5 p.m.
The legislative body that participates in Shrewsbury's Town Meeting consists of 240 members, representing all precincts. Each member serves a three-year term, but some precincts are looking for special, shorter terms to fill a vacancy.

Here's how many vacancies there are in each precinct, as of Mar. 13:
- Precinct 1: needs two more candidates
- Precinct 2: needs two more candidates
- Precinct 3: needs one more candidate (special one-year vacancy)
- Precinct 4: needs two more candidates
- Precinct 5: needs three more candidates
- Precinct 6: needs two more candidates for full terms, and two more for a special two-year vacancy
- Precinct 7: needs two more candidates
- Precinct 8: needs one more candidate
- Precinct 9: needs five more candidates
- Precinct 10: needs three more candidates

Candidates who get their papers in on time will be on the ballot in Shrewsbury's Annual Town Election on May 5.

The town said candidates don't need any prior government experience to run, adding that most get their signatures by asking family and neighbors.
Polls will be open on May 5 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at several polling locations.
The deadline to register to vote in Shrewsbury is Friday, Apr. 24. Voting by mail will be available for the election, and the deadline to apply to receive a ballot by mail is April 28 by 5 p.m.
