📰 News we're reading

• SomerStreets Coming To Gilman Square In September (patch.com) — Gilman Square will turn into a car-free arts and music hub as SomerStreets brings live performances, circus acts, kids' activities, and local food and beer to Edward Leathers Park on Saturday, Sept. 12. Somerville organizers are temporarily shifting the festival to Walnut Street and the park due to Pearl Street construction, continuing the city's Open Streets-inspired push to promote walking, play, and neighborhood connections.

• Somerville Civic Day Returning To City Hall (patch.com) — Somerville residents are invited to Civic Day at City Hall on Thursday, Sept. 10, with hands-on chances to explore city services, meet police and firefighters, and tour the building. The event keeps City Hall open for regular business, offers multilingual assistance, and ends with an optional City Council meeting so neighbors can see local government in action.

• Somerville commuter warns pet owners about MBTA escalator injuries (nbcboston.com) — A Somerville dog owner is urging fellow MBTA riders to rethink putting pets on escalators after his greyhound's paw was badly injured at Sullivan Station. His warning follows a fatal escalator incident at Davis Square and other pet injuries, as veterinarians advise carrying dogs or avoiding escalators altogether to prevent painful, costly accidents.
