Bicyclist Struck, Killed by Train in Somerville
Police say a man riding a bicycle was killed by an oncoming Fitchburg line train in Somerville Sunday afternoon.

SOMERVILLE, MA — A man on a bicycle was struck and killed by an outbound Fitchburg line train in Somerville Sunday afternoon, according to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Police.
According to police, preliminary investigation revealed that a male between the ages of 25 to 30 went through the fully functioning gates at the Park Street grade crossing, which were in the down position for an approaching train. Police say the man continued on his bicycle onto the right of way, and was struck by the oncoming train.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. Police responded to the crossing at 1:30 p.m..

Transit Police detectives along with representatives of the Middlesex DA's Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, according to the release.
