Brass Union & The Independent Get into the Spirit of Fluff
Union Square eateries to serve up Fluff-laced treats during the Fluff Festival on September 26
On September 26, Brass Union and The Independent will take part in the famed Fluff Festival in Somerville’s Union Square. As part of the ArtsUnion tenth annual street festival paying homage to the Union Square invention of Fluff, this duo of eateries will serve up marshmallow creme-laced delights celebrating this American favorite.
At Brass Union, executive chef Jonathan Kopacz will whip up sticky-sweet confections like Sweet Potato Pie Tartlets ($6) with whipped Fluff and house-smoked bacon and the trio of Fluffy Cake Pops ($6) made with cheesecake. On the liquid side, beverage director Paulo Pereira will shake up the Fluff-Ferneter ($10) cocktail, a concoction of Fernet, marshmallow-spiked vodka and Irish cream that is topped with a coconut foam hat and the Fluff Ball ($7) shot with Fireball whiskey and marshmallow vodka that is garnished with a housemade Fireball marshmallow.
Next door at The Independent, the Fluff-infused specials come threefold. Bar manager Pat Foley has created a Piña Fluffada ($11), a mix of rum, pineapple juice, crème de coconut and Fluff. From the kitchen comes the Fluff Fries ($8), which are sweet potato fries topped with candied bacon and drizzled with Fluff. To satisfy the sweet tooth, there is the Fluffin’ Tart ($8) that gloriously marries Granny Smith apples and caramel inside a Fluff-filled pastry.
