BOSTON—Catherine Greig, a companion of Whitey Bulger, pleaded guilty to criminal contempt today in federal court in Boston.

The U.S. Attorney’s office announced that Greig’s sentencing will take place on Apr. 28. Greig was being tried for criminal contempt after refusing to divulge information about those who assisted the infamous Bulger during his years as a fugitive.

According to a release by the U.S. Attorney’s office, Greig’s sentence will be based on a multitude of factors.

“The charge of criminal contempt provides for a sentence or no greater than life in prison to be served subsequent to her current eight-year prison sentence and a fine. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors,” the statement read.

Greig refused to testify before a grand jury when authorities were investigating “third parties” which aided and harbored Bulger from 1995 to 2011. Greig and Bulger were captured together in Santa Monica, California, in 2011.

Greig is already serving an eight-year sentence for harboring a fugitive and identity fraud.
