Businessman Eyeing GOP Bid Against Elizabeth Warren Visits Somerville

John Kingston, a Winchester-based executive, stumped in Somerville Thursday night while exploring a run against Warren in 2018.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Republican businessman John Kingston attended a meeting of the Somerville Republican Town Committee Thursday night as he explores a 2018 run against Sen. Elizabeth Warren. At the meeting, the Winchester executive and philanthropist outlined his vision for the country and why he believes he is best positioned to defeat Warren.

"[Elizabeth Warren] is bringing the Washington ugliness to Massachusetts, instead of doing what I will do when elected -- to bring the best of Massachusetts to Washington," Kingston said. "I approach this campaign with the lens of a constitutional conservative, and with the conviction of American exceptionalism."

Kingston joined state senate candidate Jacob Ventura in Walpole earlier this month to knock on doors in support of Ventura's bid for the Norfolk-Bristol district. Kingston, who has not formally announced his candidacy, has nevertheless been raising money for a potential campaign. The Boston Herald reported Oct. 4 that he has contributed $3 million of his own funds to his campaign, in addition to $256,000 from donors.

Kingston told the committee Thursday that Massachusetts families deserve a senator who will "fight for them and their values, not for their own political ambitions."

"I am pro-America, pro-American strength, pro-business, pro-family, pro-community," Kingston said. "I will unite with anyone to do right, and no one to do wrong."
