Comedy Club Coming To Somerville

Union Comedy will open at Bow Market in Union Square.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A comedy theater is headed for Somerville's Bow Market, the complex slated to bring over 30 retailers and a brewery to Union Square. Union Comedy is the brainchild of six area comedians looking to fill a hole in greater Boston's comedy scene, Scout Somerville reported.

Somerville resident Ben Gibb, one of the performers behind the project, told Scout the theater will focus on long-form improv popular in New York and Los Angeles, versus the Chicago-style improv preferred in several Boston area comedy clubs.

Union Comedy is eyeing a 2018 opening at Bow Market, according to a Google Doc for the club's distribution list.

More than two dozen new businesses are planned for Bow Market, which can hold 32 storefronts. Vendors will mainly be signed to short-term leases. In addition to the revolving door of retail options, a brewery and a theater, the space is expected to house "one or two" brick-and-mortar businesses.
