"Community Cooks" and "The Welcome Project" Recognized by the Lenny Zakim Fund
Two local Somerville organizations honored as Community Heroes by the Lenny Zakim Fund at the Fund's 20th Anniversary Celebration

Last Thursday night, The Lenny Zakim Fund, a Boston based nonprofit, celebrated its 20 year anniversary with over 500 donors, longtime supporters, politicians (including Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim, Boston’s Mayor Marty Walsh, Congressman Joseph Kennedy III), and previous grant recipients at a once-in-a-lifetime party at the Revere Hotel’s Space 57 in Boston. The fundraising event, chaired by Sam Slater, film producer and co-founder of Burn Later Productions, featured live and silent auctions, photo booth fun, tasting stations, a musical performance by DiverCity Band of Zumix (grant recipient) and a special performance by 16-time Grammy award winning artist and philanthropist, Sting, who played a handful of his famous hits including: “Message in a Bottle”, “Roxanne”, “Fields of Gold” and “Every Breath you Take”. The Fund welcomed 20 grant recipients “LZF Community Heroes” to the stage – one from every year – for a round of applause and a group photo with City Councilman Josh Zakim. The anniversary celebration raised approximately $1.5million dollars for the Lenny Zakim Fund and local grassroots organizations. Bill Rancic served as the party’s emcee.
The Welcome Project and Community Cooks, Somerville’s own “Community Heroes” were honored and shared the stage with Sting.
