Consultant Needed for Somerville's Climate Change Action Plan
The plan will serve as the city's strategy for addressing climate change in Somerville.
SOMERVILLE, MA – The City of Somerville is seeking proposals from consultants to work with the Office of Sustainability and Environment to develop the city's Climate Change Action Plan, which will serve as the blueprint for addressing climate change in Somerville.
The plan will pinpoint policies, programs and projects that will limit Somerville's contribution to climate change, enhance the city's efforts to be carbon neutral by 2050 and the prepare Somerville for the unavoidable affects of climate change. The consultant must provide technical expertise, support stakeholder input and develop high-quality materials.
Somerville has two main goals for its Climate Change Action Plan – to reduce the collective carbon emission of both the city and its residents and businesses and to prepare Somerville to resist the expected impacts of climate change, such as severe weather, heat waves and increased flooding.

The Climate Change Action Plan is the culmination of a multi-year planning process in Somerville and will build upon the the 2016 Greenhouse Gas Inventory and the forthcoming Carbon Neutral Pathways Assessment and Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment. Both studies provide a look at the city's current greenhouse gas emissions and anticipated climate-related risks.
