Convicted Rapist Who Held Woman At Knifepoint, Handcuffed Her To Dumpster Sentenced

Christopher Carney, of Austin, Texas, pleaded guilty this week to the 2004 Somerville attack.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A Texas man was sentenced this week in the rape of a woman in a Somerville parking lot more than a decade ago. Christopher Carney, 43, of Austin, was arrested and charged in the assault early last year after being located in Texas by the Middlesex Sheriff's Office. He was linked through DNA evidence found on the victim in the aftermath of the attack, authorities said.

In June of 2004, Carney followed the woman while she walked home and pulled a knife to her throat. He ordered her into a parking lot, where he handcuffed her to a dumpster and sexually assaulted her, the Middlesex County District Attorney's office said.

Carney then threatened the woman and told her not to tell anyone or call the police, according to the DA's office.
