Fire Ravages Temple Street Building

The two-alarm blaze occurred at 87 Temple St. on Friday, Feb. 20.

A two-alarm fire erupted on the third floor of a Temple Street apartment building on Friday, Feb. 20, according to sources. All eight residents of the building were displaced.

The Somerville Fire Department states the fire, of an as-of-yet undetermined nature, at 87/89 Temple St. had evolved into a “heavy” blaze in the third-floor apartment and porch by the time of their 10:13 p.m. arrival. Smoke, fire, and water significantly damaged the third floor, while water wrecked the first and second floors.

The only injured parties include a firefighter whose wrist was hurt by a slip onto ice, and another who was bitten by a cat.

The cat did not live on the third floor and was seemingly uninjured by the fire, but felt violently opposed to the prospect of being carried away from the scene, according to authorities.
