Heroin Trafficking, Burglary Among 8 Somerville Indictments

SOMERVILLE, MA – Eight cases with ties to Somerville are among the latest round of indictments in Middlesex County. District Attorney Marian Ryan announced on Monday indictments handed down between June 1 and July 20.

Seven of the cases are alleged to have occurred in Somerville and one resident faces charges elsewhere. Below are the indictments:

Derek Bouchard, 38, of Fall River, was charged with larceny over $250 (2 counts), breaking and entering a motor vehicle in the nighttime to commit a felony, unarmed burglary, and burning of a motor vehicle. The Assistant District Attorney is Radu Brestyan.

Luis Candelario, 32, of Boston, was charged with trafficking over 18 grams of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, subsequent offense, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, subsequent offense, and conspiracy. The Assistant District Attorney is Radu Brestyan.

John Cater, 60, was charged with trafficking over 18 grams of heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and conspiracy. Cater and Canton resident Jean Welch were arrested in September following a months-long investigation into purported drug activity at a Mt. Vernon Street apartment. According to a previous Somerville Journal report, police seized 24 grams of heroin. The Assistant District Attorney is Radu Brestyan.

Kesner Lubin, 24, of Somerville, was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance, and causing a minor to distribute drugs. The Assistant District Attorney is Raquel Frisardi.

Daniel Merrill, 32, of Somerville, was charged with unarmed robbery (3 counts). The Assistant District Attorney is Matthew Bailey.

Bryan Taborda, 23, of Boston, was charged with trafficking over 36 grams of cocaine. The Assistant District Attorney is Whitney Williams.

Jean Welch, 31, of Canton, was charged with trafficking over 18 grams of heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and conspiracy. Welch was arrested in September with Somerville resident John Cater. The Assistant District Attorney is Radu Brestyan.

Steven Callinan, 50, of Somerville, was charged in Medford with larceny over $250 on a person over the age of 60 and being a habitual offender. The Assistant District Attorney is Heidi Gosule.
