Drumming workshops for middle schools at Argenziano end with morning concert featuring students, local drummer

Students in middle grades of Argenziano School in Somerville will be studying the language of drums as Mali native Sidi Mohamed “Joh” Camara returns to the school for an intensive workshop series for the youngsters.
Camara, who lives in Dorchester, has been teaching the workshops at Argenziano for four years; thanks to consecutive grants from the Somerville Arts Council. This year the council awarded Argenziano $2,000 for the program which culminates in a free concert at 9 a.m., Friday, March 18, performed by Camara and his pupils at Argenziano .
“We’re so excited we are able to have Mr. Camara teaching workshops to our youngsters,” said music teacher Paul Barringer. He invited the drummer to teach in 2013, and has been able to extend the invitation every year.
