A man was allegedly struck in the mouth with a glass during an altercation at On the Hill Tavern Sunday night.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A Peabody man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly hitting another man in the face with a glass during an altercation at a Somerville bar. Shaun Morgan, 44, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the alleged attack.
Police responded to On the Hill Tavern Sunday night around 10:55 p.m. for a report of a past assault. A man told officers he was sitting at the bar when another man approached him and called him a liar. In his statement, he said he told the man to "shut up" and that he did not know what he was talking about. He was then allegedly hit in the mouth with a drink glass, causing the glass to break and his tooth to chip.
The man's girlfriend and a bartender confirmed the story to officers, according to the police report. The bartender told officers he and other staff stepped in and asked the alleged attacker to leave. He was described as a white male, approximately in his mid-30s, 5-foot-9 and wearing a camouflage hat, jeans and a gray shirt and left with a group of people down Medford Street.

Police found a man, identified as Morgan, matching that description entering a livery car on Medford Street behind On the Hill Tavern. Morgan initially denied having been in an altercation earlier that night and told police he was not at the bar, but later confirmed he was there and had been involved in an argument with another man after police said he matched the description of the suspect, according to the police report.
Police described Morgan as "loud and boisterous" and said alcohol could be smelled on him, his eyes were glassy and he was slightly unsteady on his feet. He allegedly became "loud and irate" when told that several witnesses said he struck someone with a glass and continued to deny the charge. He declined to provide further comment when asked to give his version of the incident, police said.
