New Somerville Restaurant Eyeing Johnny D's License
A restaurant looking to open in Magoun Square is reportedly seeking a liquor license transfer from the legendary music club.
SOMERVILLE, MA — A restaurant looking to open in Magoun Square is seeking the liquor license held by longtime Somerville music club Johnny D's. According to Boston Restaurant Talk, da Vittorio is eyeing space on Broadway.
Johnny D's closed in early 2016 after nearly 50 years in Davis Square. First a bar and then a country music hall, the club became the spot for local and national acts once the Red Line rolled into town and the music room ballooned into a full restaurant.
The restaurant was torn down in November 2017, and as of last August a poke restaurant called Waikiki was looking to move to the lot on Holland Street. As for the eatery eyeing its liquor license, not much is known other than it has posted an application notice in the window of a furniture store at 519 Broadway.
