'No Shave' Fundraiser Begins For Somerville Police And Fire
SPD and SFD will grow out their facial hair to benefit the Ryan Harrington Foundation.

SOMERVILLE, MA – It's about to get hairy in the 'ville. The Somerville police and fire departments each began their "no shave" fundraisers on Wednesday to benefit the Ryan Harrington Foundation. The Somerville Fire Department opted to do the traditional "No Shave November" this year, while the police department is extending the annual tradition to four months for the second year in a row.
Police officers who pledge $100 to the Ryan Harrington Foundation may be seen sporting a beard or 'stache until March. Firefighters who donate at least $25 will be allowed to grow a mustache.
The Ryan Harrington Foundation is a Somerville-based charity dedicated to combating addiction through financial support of youth organizations, charitable events such as food and clothing drives and material support for young men and women. The Harrington family founded the charity in memory of their son, Ryan, who passed away after a 12-year battle with opioid addiction.
