Woman Struck, Killed By Commuter Rail Train In Somerville

Police said a young woman was hit by a train in the Washington Street area.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A woman was struck and killed by an MBTA Commuter Rail train in Somerville Wednesday morning, Transit Police said. Police responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m. after receiving a call of a person possibly hit by a train. The woman, estimated to be in her 20s, was hit in the area of Washington Street while "trespassing" on the tracks, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Transit Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney's office are investigating the incident. Foul play is not suspected.

Two trains were canceled and at least three other trains were delayed as a result of the police response. Train 491 was held at North Station and trains 401 and 410 are expected to leave behind schedule. Train 401 will make all local stops between Porter Square and Wachusett.
