Police Issue Safety Alert at Tufts, Search for Lewd Suspect

Police have issued a safety alert and increased patrols around Tufts University as officers search for a college-aged man who reportedly exposed himself to a young woman walking down the street.

The victim reported to police that on Saturday, June 27, she was walking near the campus at about 5:30 p.m. when a black SUV drove past her and parked on the street. As she was walking by the vehicle, the man inside rolled down his window so she could see him “exposing and inappropriately touching himself,” according to police reports.

The victim described the suspect as a white, college-age man with short hair wearing a baseball hat with a green design on it. He was driving a shiny, black SUV with tan, leather seats.

Campus police are urging residents to be vigilant and take precautions when walking around campus. Officers recommend:

• Walking confidently and with purpose, always being aware of your surroundings.
• Walking with others. If you must travel alone at night, utilize the GoSafe service, which is available sunset to sunrise each day of the week by calling the Tufts Police from a campus phone.
• Report any suspicious person or circumstances to the Tufts Police immediately, or call 9-1-1 for local police.
