Shoplifter Foiled At Assembly Row Adidas Store

Police say a Dorchester woman's coat was "bursting at the seams" with stolen merchandise.

A recent report from Somerville Police could lead one to believe a Dorchester woman either needs to improve her shoplifting skills, or abandon the hobby entirely. Given the problematic legality of the pastime, perhaps the latter option would be best.

Around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, police say they were summoned to the Assembly Row Adidas Store. There, an employee explained a woman later identified as Saundra Hart, of Dorchester, had gone into the dressing room with five articles of clothing, returned two, handed another to a second woman, then vamoosed without paying for the remaining pair.

Not long after, police observed the second woman hanging out at JP Licks. Hart was locked in the bathroom, by their account.

Police say Hart eventually emerged from the ladies room wearing a jacket they describe as “bursting at the seams.” A windbreaker matching one the Adidas employee had reported stolen was found under her first jacket, and two empty clothes hangers were discovered in the bathroom.

Hart was arrested and charged with shoplifting, and the other article lifted from Adidas was found on her person during her booking, authorities say.
