Join Commercial Archeologist David Hebb and documentary filmmaker Sarah Ginsburg as they introduce you to an unrealized and definitely under-appreciated dimension of your very own neighborhood: Signs. Specifically, Signtronix. This will be a late-morning examination of the Signtronix phenomenon, including Hebb’s findings and analysis of signs he’s spotted across Boston’s neighborhoods, scenes from a forthcoming documentary, and an open discussion on why they even matter. Do these signs have something to say beyond their graphic and business name? Be sure to bundle up for a brief walking tour of Union Square’s Signtronix gems*, led by Hebb, the expert himself. The Signtronix trail is odd and winding, but we promise you this: as soon as you start noticing them, you probably won’t stop, giving you a new perspective on each neighborhood you traverse. This is a community benefit event held as a part of Ginsburg’s 2015 Somerville Arts Council Film/Video Fellowship.
