Somerville "Builds a Wall" at the Latino Corn Festival and Dance Party

Photos, drawings and written thoughts about Latino identity and contributions to society will comprise the wall at the festival.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville will host a festival next weekend celebrating the city's vibrant Latino community.

The Corn Festival and Salsa Dance Party, a collaboration between Mayor Joe Curtatone, the Somerville Arts Council and the SomerViva Immigrant Outreach & Service Program, will mark the end of Latino History Month on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The first-ever local event will also recognize "Dia de la Raza," which commemorates the heritage and culture of Latin America.

"That's what we do here in Somerville, we celebrate our diversity because our people are our strength as a community," Curtatone said in a statement. "I hope to see you there."

In addition to music, dance and authentic foods by local culinary experts, the festival will feature fun interactive activities, such as a photo booth and "Somerville Builds a Wall!"

Here's a look at the entertainment at the festival:

Music: Latin Logic, led by Manolo Mairena, fuses Son Montuno, Guajira, Bomba, Bolera and Salsa

Dance: Xuchipilli Folkloric Ballet

Food: Somerville Arts Council Nibble Entrepreneurs Estela Calzada, "Las Carolinas" and Miguel and Balbina Altamirano
