Somerville Conservation Commission Seeks New Member

The commission is responsible for preserving and protecting the environment in Somerville.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The City of Somerville has an open position on its Conservation Commission to serve a three-year term. The Somerville Conservation Commission is responsible for preserving and protecting the city's natural environment by focusing on wetlands, open space and community gardens.

Members administer and enforce the Wetland Protection Act and River Protection Acts, participate in open space planning and initiatives and oversee Somerville's community gardening program, which offers plots to residents.

The commission typically meets the fourth Tuesday of every month and occasionally performs site visits. The seven volunteer members are appointed by the mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen.

Experience in wetlands protection and regulation implementation, wetlands biology, civil engineering, hydrology, geology and resource management is desired. Applicants with other relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
