Somerville Officer Awarded For Finding Lost $3K

Officer Matt Khoury received the Beyond the Call of Duty Award for January after finding the money a man and his son needed to buy a car.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A Somerville police officer is being celebrated this month for his efforts to return a lost envelope of cash that a man and his young son were using to buy a car. Officer Matt Khoury was named the recipient of the Beyond The Call Of Duty Award for January based on a recommendation from Officer Anthony Manzelli and an interview Tech Auto Body owner George Mihos, police said.

Mihos told police Dec. 28 that a father and his young son had come from Marston Mills to buy a car from Tech Auto Body for $3,000, which the son had worked to save up. The money was all cash and in a white envelope.

At some point during a test drive, the two lost the envelope and came up empty during a frantic backtrack of the route they traveled. Mihos suggested they report the envelope missing to the Somerville Police Department before they drive home.
