Somerville Picks Clinton, Votes Yes on Legal Pot and High School, No on Charters

A breakdown of the presidential race and hotly contested ballot questions by precinct.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The 2016 election is in the books, and America woke up Wednesday with a new president-elect – Donald Trump.

Former Secretary of State and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton overwhelmingly took Massachusetts, and Somerville mirrored that result by an unofficial count of 32,903 to 4,064. Voters in Somerville also voted in favor of marijuana legalization and against lifting the charter school cap, two of the Bay State's most contentious ballot questions.

But perhaps the most significant vote was "yes" on Question 5, which approved a debt exclusion to partially fund Somerville's portion of a new high school. The project is slated to be the most expensive high school in state history.
